Toddland Holiday 2010

My friends at Toddland out-do themselves every season. Toddland's 2010 Holiday line offers everything from flannels and Cosby-esque sweaters, to wallets, giant gummy bears, and walking sticks. Walking sticks?! Hamburger wallets, french fry wallets, awesome cardigans, and "the greatest pants in the universe". Are you tired of seeing chicks wearing sweat pants emblazoned with words across their asses? Toddland's answer - sweat pants with the word "WAFFLES" written down the leg. That's way cooler.

If you have a dude in your life that you need to buy a gift for, look no further. A lot of this stuff (tees, cardigans) even looks great on a girl if you order a smaller size. Here are some of their offerings. Check them out for yourself at their online store. If anything, at least visit the online store to read the product descriptions, some of which I have included with the photos!

a picture is worth a thousand words. an intarsia picture of aliens abducting camels and building the pyramids on your sweater is worth your first born. but only if its a male.

"smile!" the photographer said. but there were no smiles left in percy the cat that day. after nobody showed up to his birthday gala, he realized being the only cat in school who wore clothes DID make him pretentious.

This is a 5 lb. gummy bear.

Flaming Lips

Should I do music every Monday? I’m not exactly on top of things right now, but I know what I like and I can share it.

At the end of this post is a Flaming Lips flash playlist.

The Flaming Lips are special to me for many reasons. First off, they own. So, there’s that.

Second, I have never seen a better live show. Okay, maybe Of Montreal comes close (centaur costume a couple tours ago!), but there is something magical and epic about a Flaming Lips show.

Third, my husband proposed to me at Flaming Lips show on New Years Eve. They did the count down and he pulled out the ring!

Fourth, we used “Do You Realize?” as our wedding song (the one I walked down the “aisle” too. Quotations because it wasn’t really an aisle).

And finally, if you do the math of when our daughter was conceived, it was most likely the weekend we saw them at the Del Mar racetrack for free the summer of 2009.

Oh and then, when I was pregnant, my friends over at Yo Gabba Gabba invited me to come see the taping of the Flaming Lips on the show, and I COULDN’T GO. Long story, has to do with doctor’s orders. One of the biggest “Doh!” moments of my life for sure.

I took the pictures in this post the last time I saw them. At this show, the confetti guns malfunctioned and I got a kick out of watching one of the dudes on the crew kind of freaking out about it and trying to fix it during the song. During the show, Wayne talked to the crowd and I thought what he said was so cool that I found a video of it on YouTube later so we could transcribe it for the Toddland blog. Read it here.

Do you recognize the Kylie Minogue song? :)

Jonathan Adler at Fashion Island

A little over a week ago, I heard Jonathan Adler was going to be on Home Shopping Network, so I decided to tune in. The host was terribly cheesy and Mr. Adler did a great job at humoring her, and he was pretty funny. I felt so lame watching and even more lame when I actually ordered something. I couldn't help myself! They were selling a set of 3 bud vases for less than $40. Just one JA bud vase usually costs $28. Since it was such a bargain, I even went all crazy and got them in gold. Jonathan Adler has 2 new books out, Jonathan Adler on Happy Chic Colors and Jonathan Adler on Happy Chic Accessorizing. He will be at Barnes & Noble at Fashion Island (in Newport Beach) on Tuesday, November 9th at 7pm signing his new books.

Les Nereides/N2

My BFF Rachael just got back from a month-long trip to Europe, and she brought me back this crazy ostrich necklace (the one with the rainboots, on the right)! She first saw it in Paris last year and sent me a picture of it, knowing I would appreciate it. I became obsessed with it. I love gaudy, crazy jewelry. Especially anything with animals. I have pretty good collections of Betsey Johnson rings and vintage brooches. Vintage brooches are my favorite and I have everything from a carousel horse to a corn on the cob (maybe I will post about those some time). I searched far and wide for this necklace (she couldn’t remember the exact name of the brand) and finally noticed that Anthropologie had it online, but by the time I had made my decision to buy it, it sold out. So I was super stoked when she presented me with this fun gift today, and now I know who makes it. According to Rachael, Les Nereides is like the parent brand and more high end, while N2 is their “little sister” brand. I checked out their website and they make all sorts of wacky accessories. Here are some of my favorites.

Doodle-dee-doo

I took pictures of some of my sketchbook doodles with Hipstamatic because it makes things look cooler than they really are.
