Happy Birthday Zoey!

We had a little birthday party for Z over the weekend. It was just right! It was small, with just our families and a few friends and their kids. It was a perfect day – she took a 1 and a half hour nap (which is epic for her) and woke up right before our first guests arrived. We served lots of healthy fruits and veggies. I baked her birthday cake from a recipe I saw on Smitten Kitchen, but swapped the frosting for vanilla buttercream. Kids blew bubbles on our patio. She got a lot of really nice presents and after everyone left, we took her to the park to go on the swings. She was pooped at bed time and crashed out easily. And the party clean up was pretty easy too!

Remember the pom poms from Shortcake party picks I posted about?
Zoey was the most tame first-time cake eater I have ever seen. Maybe because I gave her a piece instead of an entire cake. She took dainty little bites and there were barely and crumbs on the floor when she was done.
I saw this idea on Pinterest. I just covered up the light fixture over our dining table.
We made this little picture display with some of our favorite Zoey pictures.
These are bubbles!
That big poofy heady piece came from Princess Pie Bowtique on etsy. I swear she's happy.

For some reason the tiny fruit morsels didn't register that it was for her birthday!

OMG she's such a pretty little girl. I would totally expect that she would be a dainty cake eater! The decorations look great! Love that cake!

i love the photo of her eating the cake. happy 1, Z!

looks like fun, great job decorating. i was glad we didn't do a party because it's such a hassle, but you make it look fun instead of annoying.

Thanks!

I totally wasn’t even going to have a party for her, because I hate when parents throw these over the top parties for their 1 year olds that are more for them than their kid. But once I invited our families and a few friends, I figured it was officially a party, so I might as well decorate. I get obnoxiously excited over party decorations, so doing that stuff is actually fun for me.
