Pom pom flowers

I bought this deer vase months ago, and I finally decided to make some pom pom flowers to go in it. I saw this photo floating around Pinterest, and I loved everything about it, but especially the deer vase. Luckily I found one on eBay for only $14.

All you need is yarn in whatever colors you like, and floral cloth wire, available in the floral section at Michael's. You could choose yellow yarn for a billy button effect. All white or cream pom pom flowers would pretty too. I chose bright colors for these flowers because they are for Zoey's play area. This vase of pom pom flowers will be sitting on the dresser we painted.

Wrap the yarn around your fingers - 2 fingers for a small pom pom and 3 fingers for a larger pom pom. I like to wrap it around 100 times to make a nice full pom pom.

Take the yarn off your fingers. You will now have a little ball of yarn. Lay the ball on a separate piece of yarn.

Tie the piece of yarn tightly around the ball of yarn you made.

Cut through the loops.

Your pom pom will probably look messy, like this. Now all you have to do is give it a little haircut.

Now you can insert your floral wire into the center of your pom pom. You don't need any adhesive, it will just tuck in there nicely. Use wire cutters to trim the cloth floral wire so that your flower is at the desired height. If you don't have wire cutters and you are using a vase that isn't see-through, you can just fold the bottom of the wire up and wrap it around.

gotta makes these in yellow! I've always had a bad time with pompoms - never thought to trim them so nicely after they were done! Hot damn! Love that deer vase!!!
