The Iron Press in Costa Mesa

It's hard not to compare The Iron Press to Bruxie, since they are the only 2 waffle sandwich places in Orange County. But I'm not going to. Because I am just so stoked we live in a place that has more than one option for waffle sandwiches. There are people who have no waffle sandwiches. Feel sorry for them.

These waffles are so good. The fried chicken waffle sandwich is topped with cole slaw and jalapeño maple syrup. The prosciutto and gruyere was loaded up, and when you get a bite that's extra stone-ground-mustardy, it's like a little bite of heaven. Or the final dancing/rollerskating scene in Xanadu. Same thing, am I right?

The Iron Press is located at The OC Mart Mix, which is quickly becoming one of my favorite places. Seating is at a long bar that spans the length of the restaurant, so I would recommend this to parties of 2-4. Or order to go and grab a spot outside in the center courtyard or one of the tables inside the mart.

Burger Fabric!

I freakin' love burgers. So I decided to devote some fabric to my love of the best food invention ever. I will be making tote bags out of these and selling them at Patchwork. So if you love burgers as much as I do, come snatch one up. Whatever I don't sell will be listed in my Etsy shop in June.

Sweet moves...

Why does stuff this rad stop happening?
What kind of world are we living in that this isn't a thing anymore?

Snapshots: Staycation

I mentioned last week that I would be making homemade funnel cakes for Kyle's birthday. Well, my mom offered to come over and stay with Zoey so that we could go out for a birthday dinner. So instead I made homemade fritters for breakfast! The recipe was for apple fritters, but we were out of apples, so I made banana fritters. They were amazing! Of course, I added festive birthday sprinkles.

Zoey is now obsessed with birthdays. She hands us things that already belong to us and says "Happy birthday!" Her 2nd birthday is just a month away.

We took Zoey to a petting zoo called Zoomars in San Juan Capistrano. She loved feeding the bunnies. They also had llamas, goats, and chickens. Afterward, we went out to lunch at El Adobe.

We went to the LA Farmer's Market.

Zoey is obsessed with stickers. So we bought her very first sticker album.
And a bunch of stickers for me too :)

We went to Main Street in Seal Beach. We ate at Beachwood BBQ, then went to the kite shop and flew a kite on the beach.

We got gelato in Laguna Beach, then went down to the beach and showed Z the water. I am pretty sure all we did was eat on this vacation. I have never been more excited to eat a salad and go to the gym. My back boobs have back boobs now.

We went to Knott's Berry Farm. We told Zoey we were going to Snoopy's house, and all the way there she said "I wanna see Snoopy, Mama, I wanna hug him. I wanna pet him." Thank goodness we really did find Snoopy when we got there!

And even with all that action, our favorite day was the one where we stayed home, made dinner on the grill and ate outside on our patio with Z. We left the grill on and made s'mores for dessert.

Favorite Pinners

Today I thought it would be fun to share some of my favorite Pinterest users!

▲ My Little Fabric ▲
After re-pinning something from her for the gazillionth time, I decided to stalk her profile and found out that she's a food stylist, photographer, and graphic designer living in Paris. I also found out that a lot of the drool-worthy photos of food I pin from her are her own work! Her amazing taste doesn't end there. I also love her other boards, most notably graphic design and illustration.

No Pattern Required
If you love mid-century design and kitsch, definitely follow this gal. She has the best collection of mid-century sideboards/credenzas, and she usually posts the maker which is helpful if you are hunting down a piece. Another favorite is her "Neon Lights the Way" board, full of fun vintage neon signs. With over 8,000 pins, you will have fun browsing her boards that feature everything from old ads to vintage electronics and "retro food."

Sweet Paul Magazine
These boards are almost all related to Sweet Paul magazine, and that's alright because Sweet Paul magazine has got the goods. You will find really yummy-sounding recipes with nice photos (like this almond and lemon tart, or this lemon and feta dip), and fun ideas for DIY projects and holiday tabletop decoration.

Chris @ Wedge in The Round
This guy is all cheese! Need I say more?

Jennifer Czajka
I don't know this girl, but we pin back and forth from each other often, so clearly I like her taste! Her "home" and "indoor garden" boards are chock full of goodness, and she has a really awesome board called "home bar" where she pins fancy cocktails, vintage drink carts, drink accessories, and booze with lovely packaging.

There are so many more people on Pinterest whose pins I admire! This was just a handful of the ones I get excited about. Do you have any favorite pincers?

I'm on vacation this week! So is Kyle. We aren't actually going anywhere. Just staying local and hanging out with Zoey. We have big plans to visit a petting zoo (we party so hard, right?), and I am going to try making homemade funnel cakes with root beer glaze for Kyle's birthday tomorrow. Today I'm just popping in to say that I've been accepted as a vendor at the Patchwork Indie Art & Craft Festival, this time at the Santa Ana location on May 27th. I'll have some fun new stuff to show over the next few weeks!

Snapshots: N'ice Cream

N'ice Cream makes their organic gelato and sorbet every morning, and none of their ice cream is more than 12 hours old at any point during the day. The Yogurt Honey flavor (pictured above) was seriously good!

Snapshots: Umami Burger (Costa Mesa)

The new Umami Burger just opened in Costa Mesa. People go nuts for the LA locations, so I had to try it. The classic Umami burger was good. I really liked the texture added by the parmesan crisp, and the meat was cooked perfectly medium rare. The fries (regular and sweet potato) were a bit disappointing - very average. I paid almost $20 for a burger and fries. Would I do it again? Not any time soon. Maybe once every few months. It's a good gourmet burger, albeit a bit overhyped. For a standard burger I will stick with TK Burger's Big Bargain Special for less than $6.
